T-362 : Best Books

I like learning. I have a degree in Elementary Education. I am a "tech guy" by day but I continue to teach Adult Education classes by night. In my free time, when I'm not on the computer, I like reading newspapers, magazines, and especially books. I volunteer with the local library foundation. I dream of having walls of my home lined with IKEA shelves filled with my favorite books. One of my favorite scriptures is found in Doctrine & Covenants 88:118:

"And as all have not afaith, seek ye diligently and bteach one another words of cwisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best dbooks words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith."

I've highlighted the phrase, "...seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom...". To me that phrase means that the truth is out there and that each book I read has some portion of that truth in it. When I match up what I'm reading with the truth found in the scriptures it helps me understand the Gospel more.

One of my favorite online tools of late is a website called "Goodreads ":

"what is Goodreads ?
Goodreads is the largest social network for readers in the world. We have more than 4,200,000 members who have added more than 110,000,000 books to their shelves. A place for casual readers and bona-fide bookworms alike, Goodreads members recommend books, compare what they are reading, keep track of what they've read and would like to read, form book clubs and much more. Goodreads was launched in December 2006. "

My favorite part of this site is the ability for me to save books I've read and those that I want to read along with being able to keep notes about the books.

Next time I'll share how much I like Scrabble...

T-363 : Six Pack?

real-six-pack-abs.jpg (600×433)

So, my fitness resolution for 2011 has something to do with my abs. I need your help, though. Everything I've googled so far leads me to the conclusion that "6-pack abs" are the only legitimate goal. I'm not so sure I can achieve that. Is there some other measurable way to determine whether my tummy's getting tighter? Also, I'm concerned about which exercise(s) will best contribute to ab fitness. I only really know of sit-ups and crunches. Both of them make me nervous that I'm going to hurt my back doing so. What are your ideas?

T-364 : Bored Games?

The countdown continues...

We've played a lot of board games this holiday season.  In fact, right now we have all of our board games out on our family room floor.  We're on a quest to play each game then either place it back in the game closet or give it to the thrift store.
  1. Can you guess which game this is?
  2. Can you guess which categories each of the lines represent?
I can't wait to see some answers.

T-365 : Yearlong Effort

One of my new year resolutions is to put more of my thoughts down on "paper". While not quite a journal/diary -- due to the public nature -- I'm choosing to approach this goal by blogging. Initially I thought I'd commit to one blog entry per day. I've tried that in the past, though, and become discouraged when I missed a day. Right or wrong my answer to that is going to be to make 365 blog entries in 2011. Some might be more often than once per day; some less. In some ways blogging at the "moment of the thought" excites me more than waiting until the end of the day to try to recall all that might be noteworthy. In the end I hope to have a worthwhile volume of thoughts. There's a popular website called 365Project where people take a picture a day for a year documenting the little day-to-day things that make their lives unique. I hope to do a similar thing with words, though my own photographs or other representative pictures will almost always be included. So, what do you think? Have any of you tried similar ventures? I'm looking forward to the ride.
