T-170 : Torture Hold

Being put on hold for longer than you desire is probably the only thing worse than not being able to navigate through an automated phone menu.  Here's some tips:

  • Press 0
    Interrupt the recitation of the telephone menu by pressing 0 or 0# or #0. 
  • Wait...
    Don't punch any number.  The system will assume you have a rotary dial phone and connect you to a representative.
  • Yell!
    Raise your voice. Some companies screen for tension in customers' voices and will route callers about to blow a fuse to the top.

Years ago Aflac actually added a menu option that said to Press 7 to hear the duck quack.  I enjoyed that they added that bit of humor to try to assuage impatient ones like me.
